It is also so very bright and clear in my mind; the visuals are so affecting, just like the creations that Harry weaves. Favorite scene: Harry casually chatting with dragons. 12/10 would be unhinged again.)

(I’m not a big crier over fics. Maybe three or four have made me cry this year. This one made me lose it. I think the thing that stands out to me is the visceral capture of emotion. You can feel Draco’s broken heart, and then you can feel Harry’s. I could probably get worked up about it right now. Favorite scene: Draco crying over the broken tea cup. I literally can’t function when I think about it. 12/10 would cry again.)

(I might be cheating since I’m still savoring The Brightest Constellation of Our Souls but I’m including it because it is Peak Drarry Romance. TheCouchSofa always has this intensely brilliant characterization. Harry is heartbreakingly oblivious. Draco is prickly and about as subtle as a brick over pining for Harry. This also features depression!Harry, which has gotta be one of my favorite Harrys. She writes depressed Harry with such delicacy, handling the ins and outs of mental illness and trauma with care, but also making it fucking funny. Favorite scene so far: Harry very casually slipping into conversation that he’s bisexual after he’s been traveling with Draco for an absurd amount of time without mentioning it. And Draco’s ensuing reaction. 12/10 will continue swooning.)

However, his drive to right and save all was still there. Chapter 18 brought it all together. I won't say how as the fic is so new, but, for me, it was so romantic with BAMF Harry showing up and Draco trying to be mad. Complete chef's kiss.)

(Told through jumps between the past and the present, I adore the way toomuchplor depicts the everyday romance of an established relationship. Too often romance is delegated to big displays of affection, when I think much of romance is in the mundane, routine moments. Listening to your partner share about their day is romantic. Making routine breakfast and coffee is romantic. The intimacy of having an ongoing inside joke about a cat name is unbearably romantic to me. These are the small, everyday moments that the foundations of grand romances are built upon, and this fic was a love note to those moments.)

(it's a classic H/D fic that preserves Draco's prickly personality while still showing him reforming in a very realistic way. It's a slow-burn—Harry isn't really in the first half at all, and when he does show up he's still very suspicious of Draco—but as Draco shows his (new) true colors, Harry can't help that his suspicions turn to curiosity (one of my favorite tropes with reformed Draco fics) especially with the somewhat forced proximity they find themselves in that slowly turns into voluntary and frequent proximity. To me, maybe because of the slow burn, it seems like a very realistic depiction of how Draco could reform himself and how Harry can turn his suspicions into curiosity and eventually more to form a healthy relationship together.)

hey, i don't really know how much work it is to make an event, though i think it would be great to have a blog that kind of collects these events so more people will see them and also it can all be found in the same place (thinking of it because there is a vashwood week comming up hostet by vashwood-week) but mostly i was wondering if a combined thing would be of interest? like vashmeryl week, vashwood week, angst war, fluff week, whatever, with prompts for each day, as normal. but to encourage people that don't write or draw for it for whatever reason could instead recommend a fanart or fanfic. or show of an old fanwork they already have that fits the prompt. so like a combo of giving ideas prompts for new ideas and to promote older stuff too? or something like a 1-comment-a-day-week. like something that encourages but does not imply a lot of work like making a rec list or writing or drawing something new anyway thanks a lot for trigunfanfictionappreciation week!

I've run/am running two other events besides this; @stryfewoodweek (finished) and @trans3gun (which is coming up soon!) and they're pretty manageable for me so long as it's not, like, assigning and connecting people like bbs and ss are!

Alfie's End of Year Rec List 2023

Out of 447,090 words and 141 total fics, this year I wrote a whole 224k and 78 fics, which is a lot more than last year. I wrote for 10 different ships this year, including 3 new ones. Yay for progress, I guess.

Anyway, to celebrate a rather productive year here at the_oncoming_stormageddon's AO3 dashboard, I've decided to compile a list of all of my favorite fics that I would reccommend :D number three will shock you!

In a shocking turn of events, I lied, sorry. This is about my graphs. It's always about my graphs. All graphs are up to date as of 12/21/2023, and there isn't even a missing word somewhere that has to be accounted for!

(Did I type all of this up, realize I had another fic to post, and then have to go back in and fix everything? ...perhaps)

Anyway. Let's start with Taylor Swift.

As always, "Other" corresponds to fics with titles from other artists, "Non-Album" refers to titles from Taylor Swift songs that aren't on an album or are unreleased, and "None" refers to titles that weren't from any lyrics. Orville Peck and Maisie Peter were the big contributors to the "other" category this year. The second graph shows the percent of the number of fics, while the first graph is the combined word count. Also, I did have 1 fic with an If This Was a Movie title, and I categorized it under "Speak Now TV" instead of Fearless TV. Yell at me about it in the comments if you really care, since it's technically incorrect.

Last year, I had a big Fearless slice because of the Hey Stephen series, and it was kind of surprising to me to see how much I slowed down in doing those, with Fearless only having 4 fics to its name. The disparity between the number and word count of the evermore was a little odd to me, until I realized that my longest fic ever (Tuesday Night at Olive Garden, a destiel murder mystery) was named after an evermore song. One thing that did not surprise me was folklore only having 1 fic, because that is my least favorite album.

So...the destiel thing...

The SPN hyperfixation took hold of me in Feb/March of this year and has not let go yet. Looking at my all-time graphs (where its about 33%/40% destiel/solangelo for word count), I didn't think it was that bad, but plugging in the numbers for just this year...uh, yeah. It's that bad. Sorry.

I had a really strong streak of posting solangelo every month until March hit. Again, destiel hyperfixation in visual form. This year, I wrote lokius (L/MMM, from the show Loki) and sterek (DH/SS, from the show Teen Wolf) for the first time. I also posted destiel (C/DW) for the first time (the bad destiel fics of middle school alfie are staying in locked docs where they belong).

As expected, I had a bit of a drop-off in the summer months, but it was surprising for me to see that it never went back up after school started again. Last year, I had a huge spike in September, October, and December, but this year stayed relatively mellow. Next year, I'd really like to see which trend I follow monthly.

Anyway, that's the end of the graphs I have prepared for you (I will spare yall from the more complicated ones). Next year, I'd really like to start finishing up some of the unresolved fics and series I have (mostly solangelo ones that got drowned in the destiel flood). I'm doing my first ever big bang (for the Professor Layton fandom), so katriana (KL/EP) will make it onto my graphs for next year, as will destiel and solangelo.

ohhhhh romancy books! okay, uh i absolutely loved ashley poston's the dead romantics (i need to read the seven year slip). the bright falls series by ashley herring blake (deliah green doesn't care, astrid parker doesn't fail and iris kelly doesn't date) is super fun, as is the written in the stars series by alexandria bellefleur (written in the stars, hang the moon, count your lucky stars) and i always recommend emily henry for great romances. i also really like rachel lynn solomon and loved her latest, business or pleasure! i'd be happy to give more recs, just let me know what kind of books you're interested in!

Yeah that's the same reason I started watching it! And yeah I totally know what you mean, they really butchered his character. Okay, since you asked, this is the fic I'm still most proud of to this day, it's called Wish That You Were Here, and please feel no pressure to read it!

I'm so thrilled to just go, my friend and I had tickets for Lover Fest but it got cancelled because of Covid, so I am hoping nothing comes up this time! I'm super excited to scream the Cruel Summer bridge, obviously dreaming about my ideal surprise songs, but I'm really excited for the folklore and evermore sets, those are the ones we didn't really see live much and she made it so stunning. The willow in the movie is just wow (I'm speechless) and also my tears ricochet. I'm so excited to see those live. Which were your favorites the first time you went?? My week was okay, I was still on sick leave till wednesday and then worked on thursday, friday and saturday. I took a nap yesterday that I only woke up from this morning. My neck hurts quite a bit, I think I strained a muscle because I'm sleeping with more pillows because of my cough. And I was working on my own ss gift, which is a little scary but mostly fun!

So the concept for this fic first came to me about 0.5 milliseconds after finishing my last longfic and swearing never again, which basically tells you all you need to know about me as a person. I think I'd been reading a lot of fics by khalulu, and somehow the Beast Division just popped into my brain. Wherever it came from, I'm incredibly grateful, because it gave me the opportunity to collaborate with the incomparable @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm, who threw himself into this with such incredible enthusiasm, going along with every crazy idea I had and adding a few of his own. His hard work and insane talent really turned my weird and wonderful creature story into something special, and I feel so incredibly lucky <3

Cordria (ao3) - The Place To Begin!!! Several hundred fics once you factor in the oneshot collections, covering literally every genre under the sun and angst that will change you forever

Danny Phantom SG-1 - the author who taught me that fanfiction was designed to be a vessel for angst, will bash you over the head with your own feelings

HaiJu (ao3) - one of the most polished and highly recommended authors in the phandom for a very very good reason

Laora (ao3) - one of my favorite authors of all time, and creator of Empty Promises (ao3) aka the angstiest fic in the phandom
